To motivate, educate and provide clients with the building blocks they need to succeed in reaching their best physical and mental well being.
My passion for fitness began 20 years ago with my own goals for a healthy lifestyle. I pursued several sports including golf, hockey and competitive Olympic paddling. I even had the honor of being trained by 1984 gold medalist Larry Cain which was really exciting and his expertise was invaluable. This enthusiasm for fitness and athletics led me to pursue my career as a Fitness Professional.
I spent a year obtaining my first certification which required hours of research and learning. Upon completing my certification, I began working for a large fitness club chain. That gave me the confidence to deal with a variety of clientele both healthy and those with special issues. This was a great stepping stone to further my training acumen and career. It enhanced my skills to motivate, train and sell to individuals with different goals and attitudes. This however, wasn't enough.
I began volunteering with physiotherapists and chiropractors to expand my understanding with regards to clients with injuries who require rehab. Continuing over the next 5 years I obtained additional certifications which enable me to work with bosu balls, kettle bells, special populations and be competent in the area of Nutrition consultation.
Early on, I learned a little secret about the fitness industry. That is, it can take as little as ONE WEEKEND to become a Certified Personal Trainer. I thought, WHOA, that’s a little scary. I personally would never have had the confidence to train and educate clients nor would I choose to hire a trainer that received their credentials in as short of a time as 3 days. I would expect that they participated in the equivalent amount of time learning the profession as I had when I started.
Throughout the years I have mentored with some of the best trainers in the business, many of whom have 30 years in the industry themselves, who provided to me a wealth of knowledge and unique insight. Every year since becoming certified as a fitness professional (2002), I actively participate in continuing my education through hours of required weekly study and by attending annual conferences. Speakers who represent the best in their field present on a various topics in the health and fitness industry. These conferences not only allow me to obtain information to add to my expertise, but are also required for me to maintain my certifications.
This is where I take my passion, knowledge and enthusiasm for health and fitness and educate my present and future clients on a healthier lifestyle. My biggest reward is watching my clients transform themselves from start to finish.
